If I am not mistaken, every Indian college in Bangalore has Tibetan students of variant strength. Bangalore college students enjoy the most pleasant weather as compared to other universities in India. Students in Tibetan Youth Hostel, Bangalore are engaged and busy with activities throughout the year. Our hostel organizes a number of programs for the students of Youth Hostel and also the ones residing outside. Most of the Tibetan festivals are celebrated or commemorated in the hostel with full of jest and vibrancy. Bangalore Tibetan Hostel indeed could be named as the most exciting and homely hostel to be in.
For an instance, His Holiness’s 80th Birthday celebration lately which was basically sponsored by the Karnataka Tourism Department to organize the program magnificently was graced with distinguished guests including Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangye and other Indian Tibet supporters and friends of Tibet. All the students put in their best efforts to make the program a grand success. Celebration of other auspicious events like Nobel peace Prize day, Saka Dawa, Democracy Day, Lhakar and Losar are also organized in the hostel. There are other special programs like Cultural Show (Tibetan students dances and songs) and Arts and Crafts Exhibition of Thangka painting, wood carving, Tibetan medicine and astrology etc. On such days, free check up and medication is done for all who are in need. To sum it up, such programs are held with utmost dedication and efforts from the students to raise awareness about our rich cultures and traditions and to call up for more supporters for our movement. The hostel also organizes Inter Collegiate Games Competition, Debates and Elocution contest, Creative Writing contest and Dance Competitions. Each participant holds the program seriously and strives hard to achieve their victory. These programs aim to develop various personal skills and leadership qualities within the students. I personally have experienced such benefits after participating in such activities. Sports like football, table tennis, cricket and basket ball tournament are organized with the permission from the administration. Whatever programs we do, we try not to damage the hostel properties.
Particularly on National Uprising Day, just as Tibetans across the world do, we also hold programs to create awareness about the issue of Tibet and its current situation inside Tibet. The commemoration of the 56th Tibetan Uprising Day in Bangalore was held in the city with State’s Chief Minister as the chief guest of honor with various other dignitaries. Tibet for Tibetan”, “ Save Tibet” slogans echoed throughout the streets of the city as students held a rally. With the peace march in morning, there was candle light vigil was held in the evening. The 56th defiance years passed but we will continue to resist until the repression and oppression ends inside Tibet. BTYC have worked earnestly this year.
My two years slipped away, I am looking for more enjoyments, experience and explorations in the upcoming years.
